Just keep sowing

It is my privilege to have my toe in several different life circles, simultaneously. From my vantage points, I get to observe the varying pressures, comforts, fears, joys and demands of lots of stages of life.

I have come to one conclusion.

Life is hard.

Every stage of it.

From at least middle school on, there are heavy burdens to be borne. Uncertainties faced. Insecurities dealt with. Difficult decisions made. Pain to be endured.

There are also joys and comforts and privileges uniquely associated with every season.

As well as the overwhelming temptation to look at a different place in life, to be convinced it is preferable, and to wish oneself there.

Wednesday's Word is an exhortation for each season - Galatians 6:9 -
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up

Let us cling to the truth that the sowing takes place in one season but the reaping won't come til later. Sometimes it's so much later that we might not even recognize the cause/effect relationship!

But this verse assures us that it's there.

If you're in middle school, thinking that the high school privileges of driving and dating are going to make your life complete, ponder this verse. Sow the good things in the season you're in.

If you're in high school, thinking that college will bring the friends and freedom that will be the answer to the holes in your heart, ponder this verse. Sow the good things in the season you're in.

If you're in college, thinking that marriage will bring the end to all your problems, ponder this verse. Sow the good things in the season you're in.

If you're married, thinking that parenthood will complete you, ponder this verse. Sow the good things in the season you're in.

If your kids are preschoolers and you are longing for the time when you have a moment to breathe, don't keep holding your breath. Ponder this verse. Sow the good things, not only in your heart, but especially in the hearts of your littles, in this season.

If you're waiting for that empty nest, itching for freedom from responsibility, ponder this verse. Continue to sow the good things in the season you're in.

If you're enduring the cruelty of aging and longing desperately for the seasons gone by, ponder this verse. As long as you have a pulse, there are good things left to be sown.

And due seasons left in which to reap.

My prayer for you and me and all of us today is that we will not grow sowing-season-weary. May God grant us not only the grace to not give up but also enough evidence of reaping results along the way -- and the wisdom to see the correlation with the sowing - that we trust His harvest plan.

One final verse to underscore His harvest plan, one last thought to ponder of His goodness, one last promise to cling to...Hebrews 6:9 - For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do

Sweet sisters, I know some of you are in a hard place right now. I am praying for so many of you by name. I hope that brings you comfort and encouragement. But greater still, I hope that you know that He sees the work you are doing. And He will not overlook it. He is taking our meager attempts to sow, yours and mine, and He is bringing the harvest.

He promises.
