The best defense is a good offense. I've heard that (and its reciprocal) proclaimed often in my den during football season. The way to defeat an opponent is to score more points than they do. Duh.
That said, how do we "score points" against our enemy?
If you look at all the pieces of armor we've discussed so far, they are all defensive. The helmet of salvation. The breastplate of righteousness. The belt of truth. The shoes of peace. The shield of faith. All serve to protect us from assault. Defense. Then we get to the last pieces....the ones that enable us to be on the offensive. The ones that equip us to score.....
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints Ephesians 6:17,18
Do you see the two weapons listed there? Obviously, the sword, which Scripture clearly explains is the Word of God. But don't miss the other one. Prayer. God's Word and prayer. That's how we attack the enemy. That's how we score points. That's how we win.
The weapons of our warfare. Not just defensive, protecting us from attack. But also offensive, racking up victory against that which assails us.
God wants to do more than protect us from injury. He wants us to be victorious over the things that threaten our demise. Unforgiveness. Depression. Bitterness. Broken relationships. Rebellion. Greed. Envy. Fear. Worry. And He's provided what we need to score. I hope we don't leave those things in the locker room. We need them on the field.
